By high school, he was playing in bands regularly, which set the stage for his future in music.

Bob went on to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston before moving to Austin, Texas, where he performed in stage productions of The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Hair. It was in Austin that he discovered his love for the mandolin, leading him to join the pioneering alternative bluegrass band The Bad Livers. Throughout the 1990s, Bob toured extensively with the group, gaining invaluable experience on the road.

In the late ‘90s, Bob returned to New York, where he continued performing while working for Music Sales Publishing. His expertise led him to contribute to Guitar World and Frets magazines, as well as authoring six instructional books on guitar and mandolin for Music Sales/Hal Leonard.

Bob relocated to Nashville in 2000, where his career took off in new directions. He performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage with country legend Gale Davies and shared the stage with artists spanning country, rock, bluegrass, punk, and alt-country. His performances have taken him around the world, including Europe and Asia.

Now based in Gallatin, Bob has spent over 25 years teaching and performing in Middle Tennessee. He is a familiar face at the world-famous Station Inn, where he plays in the Sunday gospel band alongside Val Storey, Larry Cordle, and Mike Rogers.
