Biography

Aaron Keen brings his lifelong love of music and a passion for teaching to Keen School of Music. Born and raised in Gallatin, TN, Aaron started playing guitar at 13, inspired by legends like Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhardt, and Tommy Emmanuel. By high school, he was performing with his brother in a band and playing solo acoustic sets at local venues, laying the foundation for his future in music.

Aaron’s influences span a variety of genres, including rock, blues, gospel, and funk, with a special appreciation for artists like Steely Dan, Chet Atkins, Stevie Wonder, and Take 6. These diverse inspirations have shaped his approach to music and teaching, giving him a unique ability to connect with students of all interests and skill levels.

Encouraged by his own guitar teacher, Aaron started teaching music while still in high school. Teaching quickly became a passion, and he continued giving lessons throughout college while studying at Vol State Community College and afterwards, studying Music Composition at MTSU. During his time at Vol State, Aaron performed with the Vol State Performers, playing guitar for the group and gaining valuable experience on stage

After college, Aaron expanded his musical horizons by joining The Young Americans, where he dabbled in musical theater and spent three years performing and teaching throughout the country. After returning to Tennessee he pursued his true calling-teaching.

For over 20 years, Aaron has been dedicated to helping students discover their creativity, build confidence, and enjoy the process of learning music. Aaron is a multi-instrumentalist with a knack for versatility- Aaron teaches guitar, piano, bass, and voice, as well as banjo, drums, dulcimer, violin, melodica, and beginner viola and cello. His goal is simple: to make learning music fun, accessible, and inspiring for every student he works with.

Testimonials

I can't say enough good things about this place. I've been taking lessons with Aaron Keen for several years now, and he's helped me fall in love with music over and over again, as we’ve moved from rhythm guitar, soloing, bass guitar, keyboards, and vocals. I love his versatility and can't wait to pick his brain at our weekly lessons. He seems to have an encyclopedic knowledge of all things music.
