Voice Lessons
Gallatin TN
Voice lessons teach you to use your voice as an instrument, with the same attention to technique any instrument requires. Students learn breath support, posture, tone, and how to expand range without strain. Our voice lessons in Gallatin, TN are open to kids, teens, and adults in whatever style you want to sing.
Beginner
Voice Lessons at
Keen School of Music
Beginners start with breathing, because everything else rests on it. Students learn to breathe from the diaphragm rather than the chest, then work on posture, relaxing the jaw and tongue, and finding a clear tone without pushing. We teach singing in a way that protects the voice rather than strains it, which matters most for children whose vocal cords are still developing, and range gets built gradually instead of forced.

Alongside technique, students learn to match pitch, hear intervals, count rhythms, and read a lead sheet well enough to learn a song on their own. Your teacher spends the first lesson finding out what you listen to and where you want your voice to go, then builds from there. Most students are working on real songs within the first few weeks.

Intermediate
and Advanced
Voice Lessons at
Keen School of Music
Once a singer moves past the fundamentals, the classical foundation our teachers bring becomes the thing that carries a voice further, since techniques like navigating the passaggio between chest and head voice, developing a usable mix, controlling dynamics, and shaping vibrato all come out of that tradition. Working this way lets a singer expand range and build stamina without straining.

Because those fundamentals hold up behind any genre of music, our intermediate and advanced students sing across a wide range of styles, from classical repertoire and musical theatre to rock, gospel, worship, pop, and country. Students preparing for something specific will find lessons built entirely around that goal, whether the work ahead is a conservatory or college audition, a school musical, a show choir tryout, or a recording project, and your teacher will help choose repertoire that suits your voice and shows it at its best.

Emily Metcalf and Kassie Mills both bring classical backgrounds and teach opera, and either can take a singer through this level of work, so contact us and we will match you with the right fit.
Voice Lessons for
Kids

Because a child's vocal cords are still developing, lessons for young singers are built around protecting the voice while building skill, which means we never push for volume or range that a growing voice is not ready to produce. Early lessons stay playful, using games, call-and-response, and songs a child already knows to develop pitch matching, rhythm, and the confidence to sing in front of someone, and the healthy habits that come out of that work hold up long after their voice has finished changing. Parents are welcome to sit in or wait in the lobby, and our post on whether parents should sit in during lessons covers what tends to work best at different ages.
Voice Lessons for
Teens

Teenagers usually arrive with something specific in mind, whether that is a school musical, a show choir audition, a worship team, or the artist they have had on repeat all year, and lessons are built around that goal. These are also the years when a voice changes, sometimes dramatically and rather than waiting it out we teach through it, adjusting range and repertoire as the voice settles so a student keeps making progress instead of losing ground. If lessons need to fit around school and rehearsal schedules, our guide to practice expectations covers what we actually ask for at home.
Voice Lessons for
Adults

Adults take voice lessons for various reasons, whether that is building stamina to get through a full set, adding range for a worship team, or finally learning to use a voice they have never trained. Singing well is a learned skill rather than something people are simply born with or without, and the same is true of the ear behind it, which our post on perfect pitch and relative pitch gets into in more detail. Lessons move at whatever pace your week allows and center on the music you actually want to sing, and if you are wondering whether you have waited too long to start, you have not. Our flexible scheduling with no contract works around your busy schedule.
