Biography
Award winning songwriter, Adam Shea brings his passion for music, technical mastery, and teaching expertise to Keen School of Music. A native of the Cedar Valley region of Iowa, Adam’s love for music started early, fueled by a steady diet of rock during his formative years. He got his first guitar at 14 and dove headfirst into learning on his own. Adam took his skills to the next level by studying guitar performance at McNally Smith College of Music in 2013.
Known as Keen School of Music’s "Resident Metalhead", Adam draws inspiration from bands like Pantera, Polyphia, and Obscura, and he’s earned a reputation for his sweep-picking skills and advanced lead guitar techniques. His deep knowledge of '90s and 2000s rock and metal makes him a favorite among teen students, who connect with the same songs that inspired Adam in his younger years. Adam’s versatility doesn’t stop at metal—he’s also performed professionally in the country music scene, showcasing his ability to adapt his playing to a wide variety of genres.
After returning to the Cedar Valley post-college, Adam immersed himself in composing and performing across multiple genres while teaching guitar both in-person and online. His YouTube lessons quickly gained popularity, reflecting his knack for making complex concepts accessible and fun for students.
These days, Adam splits his time between teaching at Keen School of Music and touring with Indie Music Channel Hall of Fame member and country artist Ryan Daniel. Whether he’s inspiring his students or lighting up the stage, Adam is dedicated to helping others discover the same joy and creativity that music has brought to his life.
