Percussion Ensemble

4th - 7th Grade

Get ready to experience the excitement of performing as part of a Percussion Ensemble!

In Allison Bush’s 10-week Percussion Ensemble, students will learn skills that will advance them as musicians, as well as the different parts of the xylophone, proper mallet techniques, basic music theory, and how to read a music score with multiple parts. As the group works on pieces with two or three parts happening at the same time, students will discover how their individual part helps brings full songs together.

Throughout the course, students will rehearse, strengthen their musical skills, and learn how to listen, collaborate, and stay together as a group. At the end of the 10 weeks, they will put it all together in a final recital and share what they have learned with family and friends.

Meet the Teacher

Allison Bush

Allison Bush is originally from Chillicothe, Ohio, and moved to Tennessee in 2002. She holds a bachelor’s degree in K-12 Music Education.

Allison was the first music teacher at Benny Bills Elementary, where she started the music program in 2002 and continued building it until 2019. She then transferred to Union Elementary, where students participate in grade-level programs, choir, ukulele ensembles, percussion ensembles, and community events.

Throughout her career, Allison has led several elementary percussion ensembles. Her students have performed at Sumner County and community events, as well as Beta competitions. For the past two years, her percussion group has earned first-place finishes at the state level, and this past year, the group finished ninth at Beta Nationals.

Allison believes any child can be successful in the music classroom. She has watched students find resilience and confidence through music and firmly believes making music does not come without making mistakes. Lots of love and laughter can be found in any of her classrooms.

Allison is excited to bring her love of teaching to Keen School of Music. She has always loved what Keen brings to the community and is honored to be part of the Keen family.
