Keen School of Music Presents: The Halloween Rock-Ready Show Recap!

Halloween spirit, epic costumes, and killer tunes—what more could we ask for? On Sunday, October 27th, the Keen School of Music rocked out at Historic Rose Mont! Our young rock stars took the stage, each band bringing their own special mix of talent, style, and costume creativity. Parents, friends, and fans filled the venue, cheering on the three bands that made this one Halloween show we won’t forget. Grab your popcorn (or leftover Halloween candy), because here’s the full recap, plus all the costume fun you may have missed!

The Radical Bones:

Spooky Skeletons & Rock ‘n’ Roll Classics with Keen School of Music

Keen School of Music's Rock-Ready Group The Radical Bones

The Radical Bones kicked things off, and these kids—each under 12—really showed that they’ve got rock ‘n’ roll in their bones! Under the guidance of their teacher Aaron Keen, this young band wowed the audience with a set of classic rock tunes. The crowd went wild for their renditions of:

  • “Come Together” by The Beatles

  • “Smoke on the Water” by Deep Purple

  • “867-5309/Jenny” by Tommy Tutone

Dressed head-to-toe as skeletons, the Radical Bones fully embraced the Halloween spirit, adding a spooky visual to their already lively performance. Their skeleton makeup and outfits made them look like a group of rockers fresh out of a haunted house, and the crowd loved every second of it! This band’s stage presence, combined with their incredible sound, had everyone singing along and cheering them on.

The Human Zoo: Emo Revival with a Twist

Keen School of Music's Rock-Ready Group The Human Zoo

Next up, The Human Zoo brought an early 2000s vibe that took us straight back to the emo days, with each band member dressed like their teacher Adam Shea! Flannels, black tees, trucker hats, sneakers, and even marker-drawn ear gauges—they NAILED the look. We loved this little costume tribute! Their set included all the emo rock bangers, like:

  • “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” by Fall Out Boy

  • “Dig Up Her Bones” by Misfits

  • "That's What You Get" by Paramore

They nailed that moody, angst-filled vibe of emo rock, pouring their hearts into each song. Between their high-energy music and their playful costume tribute, The Human Zoo had the audience rocking out!. It was the perfect mix of talent and personality, and they absolutely owned the stage.

The Flying Terrapins:

A Tribute to Rock Legends

Keen School of Music's Rock-Ready Group The Flying Terrapins

Our final act, The Flying Terrapins, closed out the night with a bang! This mixed-age band led by Aaron Keen, included one talented young drummer under 12, all dressed as rock legends who had passed on. From Amy Winehouse to Janis Joplin, each member channeled the spirit of a musical icon, turning the stage into a tribute to rock history.

They took us on a genre-hopping journey with songs like:

  • “Jeremy” by Pearl Jam

  • “Live and Let Die" by Guns & Roses

  • “Spiderwebs” by No Doubt

From blues to grunge to modern rock, The Flying Terrapins’ versatility shone through in every song, and the crowd was swept up in the energy and nostalgia of their tribute. They finished strong, earning cheers and applause as they wrapped up the night with a powerful performance that felt like a true rock celebration.

Costume Contest Highlights!

Of course, what’s Halloween without a costume contest? Our students and audiences brought their A-game, both on stage and in the crowd. Here’s a quick look at the costumes (and yes, we’ve got pics to share!):
